The International Arctic Research Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks
in collaboration with A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution, Moscow,
Russia are organizing a two-week summer school on environmental studies in
the boreal forest zone on 14-28 July 2007. The summer school will be held in
Fedorovskoe, Tver’ region, Russia, at the Central Forest Biospheric Reserve.
The course will consist of lectures on contemporary climate change,
paleoclimatology, hydrology, remote sensing of environment, and climatic,
biospheric, and hydrologic modeling. Another focus (and all the field work)
of the summer school will be related to studies of the land-atmosphere
interactions in the boreal forest zone. Each student will work on a project
as a member of a small team together with an instructor and will present
a project report at the end of the two-week period. Several field trips in and outside
the Forest Reserve are planned to highlight various aspects of studies in this field.
The summer school is open to graduate students and postdoctoral scientists having a demonstrated interest in ecosystem modeling. Advanced undergraduates with experience in ecosystem modeling may also apply.
More information about the summer school and the Forest Reserve is available on IARC website:
